Make new friends but keep the old. One is silver, the other gold.
Joseph Parry, composer (1841-1903)
Dear Friends,
Thank you for the overwhelming approval of the merger between Sun Country Credit Union and Credit Union West. Welcome to all SCCU members. Welcome to the Credit Union West family, where our mission is to enhance the quality of life for our members and our community.
Welcome, also, to the SCCU employees, who will remain with us to serve SCCU members. Members can expect the same friendly faces in the same friendly places - plus even more services and benefits!
Despite all of the upheaval in the national economy, our credit union is strong. We save together and borrow from each other. Every member has a vote, no matter how much money you have on deposit with the credit union. We are an organization of mutual cooperation with a reputation for goodwill in action.
In the weeks ahead, we will move forward diligently to bring all SCCU member data onto our core system. Many Credit Union West member benefits are already extended to SCCU members; however, there are some services that can only be offered from our core operating system (Star Checking is a good example).
We will continue to honor the origins of SCCU with a focus on serving the health care profession through financial education and scholarship support. Our Community Relations Team has already started to work with community initiatives that support and enhance the quality of life for those who serve us in the health care profession.
Our community service work continues at Luke AFB, in local school districts, and with our friends and neighbors in Yavapai County, too. By working together, we are building a powerful quality of life resource for our members and their families. It's a privilege to be a part of this exciting, cooperative expansion to 12 branches and more than 48,000 members.
Remember that you own the credit union and we work for you!
Sincerely,
Steven J. Becker

Boards share commitment to member service and value
"We want the best for our members and employees," said Tom Shipe, President and CEO of $45 million Sun Country Credit Union, from the home office in Sun City West. "The current economic and regulatory environment puts unprecedented pressures on small credit unions. Our Board of Directors reviewed several options before deciding on a merger as the best possible outcome for SCCU members."
After careful deliberation and due diligence, the Board of Directors of Sun Country Credit Union recommended a merger with Credit Union West, a $371 million State chartered community financial institution. Credit Union West was originally chartered over 57 years ago to serve the military community at Luke Air Force Base. Through natural growth and merger, the organization currently has more than 42,000 members and nine branches. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works or worships in Maricopa or Yavapai Counties.
"The merger recommendation is driven by a commitment to member service. Both credit unions will benefit by combining forces to create a bigger, stronger financial institution," said Steve Becker, President and CEO of Credit Union West. "SCCU members will receive more insurance coverage for their deposits (up to $500,000), high rate checking, more choices for borrowing, and greater convenience with twelve branches."
Both organizations confirm plans to keep all three SCCU branches open and staffed with existing employees. If the merger is approved, the credit union will have more than 48,000 members and $417 million in assets.
